Essex Youth Orchestra Association

Welcome to the EYO Association's web page. If you don't like how blank it is, then mail me, Tom Yates, at madhatter-at-teaparty.net with your suggestions, pictures, news, etc., and I'll put them up here.

The EYOa is an association for ex-members of the Essex Youth Orchestras to keep in touch. We organise social events, concerts, and produce a newsletter with EYO-related news. We are not the Essex Youth Orchestra, and are not as well placed to advise on membership, courses and concerts as is Essex County Council (best contact: Andrew Coles, Ensembles Manager for Essex Music Services; he can be emailed at Andrew.Coles@essexcc.gov.uk). The EYO now seem to have a website, which can be found here

In case you found this page via a web search, and you don't know there's a mailing list, then news: there's a mailing list. Send mail to eyoa-subscribe@teaparty.net, or visit this page in order to sign up.

Any other news of EYO-related activities will be enthusiastically posted. In an orchestra with other ex-EYO people? Got a concert coming up? Mail Tom at madhatter -at- teaparty -dot- net and tell him. All free publicity is good, right?

The association can also be reached via the secretary, by snail mail, at

Past events

The 2007 GLMC was on Sunday 16th September, in Felsted Church, with rehearsals on the day and on Sat 15th Sept. I wasn't playing, so I have no photos. I'd link to some, or put them up, if anyone had them.

The 2005 GLMC was on 18/9/2005 (yes, also a Sunday) at Colchester Institute, with rehearsals all day Saturday 17th and the afternoon of the Sunday. Programme was:

Photos are here.

Last year's GLMC was at Chelmer Valley School, on 19/9/2004.

The year before's was in Felsted Church, on 13/9/2003, at 7.30pm.

If anyone else would like to send me pictures, I will be happy to put them up. Or, if you already have them up, send links and I'll link through to your web page.

Bursary

Strong ties exist between the EYOA and the Glyn Lewis Bursary. In particular, we regularly arrange concerts, primarily played by ex-EYO musicians, to raise money for the bursary. To find out more about the bursary, read this. Application forms should be downloadable from here once next year's bursary opens for applications.

EYOA membership

To join the association, fill out the membership form and send it to the secretary with your subs (minimum £5 per year, more is appreciated where possible). There's also a standing order form which you could print out and send to your bank instead of sending us a cheque. This is a lot less trouble for you and for us, but the choice is yours.

Constitution

Yes, we have one. If you dream of mounting an EYOA coup and seizing the Association's reins in order to enjoy near-Godlike power and have armies of minions obeying your every whim (hah!), this document tells you how the Association runs. Or you might just be curious, I suppose.

Links

It seems that a fair number of ex-EYO types have web pages. I'd like to collect them all centrally, so if you click on here, you'll get to a page wherein I'm collecting links for anyone with any orchestra associations. Please email me at madhatta -at- teaparty -dot- net with any new links you know of.

Organisational Links

There are also organisations with overlap with and/or implicit interest to EYOA members (perhaps!). If there get to be enough links here, I'll put them on a separate page. For now, I'm just listing them.
